Using music embeddings from the Jukebox model, EDGE: Editable Dance Generation from Music is an AI tool that creates high-quality choreographies from music.

The technology works by encoding incoming music into embeddings using a frozen Jukebox model, and then mapping the embeddings to a sequence of 5-second dance clips using a conditional diffusion model.

Before joining batches of several clips together to create an arbitrary-length full video, temporal restrictions are enforced to ensure temporal consistency.

Various end-user applications, such as dances subject to joint-wise limitations, motion in-betweening, and dance continuation, can be accommodated by the tool’s support for arbitrary spatial and temporal constraints.

Additionally, EDGE now includes a new Contact Consistency Loss that enhances physical realism while preventing unintended foot sliding and keeps sliding intact. This feature makes sure that generated dances are physically plausible.

Human raters strongly prefer dances produced by EDGE, which is evidence that the tool outperforms earlier work and has been trained with physical realism in mind.
